Get set for the slopes: Children's ski wear guide

We’re very excited because ski season is upon us! We love taking our fairies and princes off to the snow – it makes for a wonderful family holiday where you can really enjoy some quality time together. And it’s great fresh-air-fuelled fun for the kids and the grown-ups alike.

A family ski holiday is a real adventure, but shopping for children’s ski wear can be an adventure in its own right. Your priority is to keep your little ones safe, warm and dry in comfortable clothing that gives them the freedom to swoosh down the slopes in style.

Our guide to kids ski wear makes it easy for you to get your little ones set for the snow…

Kids’ ski jackets
An insulated down jacket is the most common type of ski jacket for kids. The insulated down padding will keep fairies and princes toasty on and off the mountain, and the external layer will keep them dry. Look for a waterproof exterior layer if you can, as opposed to water resistant. This will keep them drier and enable them to enjoy the outdoors for longer.

We love Ver de Terre’s ski jackets for kids. With Thermolite insulation, they are lightweight yet super snuggly. The waterproof and breathable exterior shell fabric has taped seams, snow stoppers and inner sleeve cuffs, preventing the snow and cold from getting in. If you are looking for a perfect all-round kids winter coat, Ver de Terre is the way to because they’re designed not only for the slopes, but also for day-to-day wear too.

Kids’ ski fleeces
Adding a front-zip fleece under your child’s ski jacket will not only provide additional protection from the cold, but also means they have a warm layer on once their off the mountain and asking you for hot chocolate! We love Ebbe’s knitted fleeces – sporty and super wearable, they come in a range of colours. The zip-front means they can easily be whipped on and off and we guarantee they will be part of your child’s daily winter wardrobe, on and off the ski field.

Kids’ ski base layers
What’s next to your child’s skin in cold weather is just as important as what’s on top. That’s why high quality, breathable base layers are so important. They provide additional insulation against the cold and are super comfortable to relax in once you’ve headed back to the chalet and the outer layers have come off. Good base layers made from natural fabrics such merino wool or 100% organic cotton will also prevent your little ones from overheating. Vests, long sleeved t’s and leggings are children’s ski wear essentials. We love Wheat’s range of children’s winter base layers.

Kids' ski accessories
Many children prefer not to wear scarves, so Wheat has these perfect and simple neck warmers to stay warm under ski wear. We also love Wheat's handy balaclavas, providing excellent protection for little heads from the cold.
